StrawBale Garden: Planting

Three weeks after the beginning of conditioning the bales… and we are now comfortable with getting our plants in the ground.  In our previous post, we explained some of the reasons why… we believe… the conditioning took an extra 9 days or so to be ready.

We had a good number of seeds still on hand from last years garden… so, our trip up to John’s Produce was not all inclusive to this years needs.  There were a few plants we wanted to pick up as starts… as well as topsoil, some missing seeds, and Marigolds to plant into the sides of the bales (to keep the deer away.)

Our topsoil of choice is Happy Frog.  Check out the link to take in all the goodness.

This years garden will consist of:

  • Cucumbers
  • Tomatoes
  • Peppers
  • Jalapenos
  • Bush Beans
  • Zucchini
  • Peas
  • Two types of Squash
  • and Pumpkins

Check out the video for how we did what:
