This morning, as I got to my car to head for work, I couldn’t find my keys. I always put my keys in the same spot when arriving home… but in all honesty, I suppose there are days that things get shifted around. With them not being where I tend to leave them, I began a search, that became somewhat frantic as a good 40 minutes went by looking for those darn keys.
I finally found them laying on the ground, and ended up with a clean car in the process.
My thoughts were scattered as my morning rhythm was broken.
This scattered mind leaves me moving in several directions at once, grasping to figure out what I am doing… and why. The clock was running… I was going to be late for work. Traffic was a little thicker because I didn’t leave as early as I usually do. I had to get my bearings.
My thoughts were no longer synced with my feelings.
My actions were no longer in line with either my thoughts or my feelings.
It becomes difficult to take things in. It becomes difficult to focus on the moment that is right in front of me. I need to find a center again.
It is in moments like these where we can practice some simple techniques to bring everything back into allignment. Taking a deep breath. Getting comfortable for a few minutes.
The energy that I was feeling in the scattered minutes after I finally found my keys was pulling me away from a place of balance. It is important to sit down and center ourselves… it is important to sit down and gather all of the straying thoughts and emotions back into a place where we can operate from a place of balance.
Rather than our scatteredness pulling on us from all sides, we can take that time to gather… then then to move forward in a direction that is full of intention… and purpose.
